About this blog
~ General ~
Many blogs are essentially online diaries, reflecting upon current events in the life of the writer. Sometimes I write posts like that (and file them under Events) but in general I try to write things that will be as relevant a year from now as they were to begin with.
In fact, I sometimes go back and update old posts (e.g. I might update a post containing website recommendations if I find another URL relating to the same theme) and every few months I give this blog a pruning by going back and deleting anything that I consider to have passed its use-by date. Consequently, the only posts which remain on this blog in the long term are those which are relevant in the long term, and my archives remain more or less free of clutter. You can read my archives in chronological order, if you wish.
I see this blog as a halfway-house for things that are not significant enough to go on my main website but not trivial enough to be confined to Usenet and forgotten. I also see it as fundamentally escapist, so for example, if I’m depressed or angry about something, I almost certainly won’t write about it here.
Please leave a comment on any article that prompts a thought you’d like to share, irrespective of whether that article is recent or old. I love receiving comments; they prove that people are interested in what I write, and they add an extra dimension to the blog.
~ Navigation ~
The sidebar offers you several ways to navigate this blog. You can navigate by month, by category, or by the chronological index. The latter is a good way to get the big picture on everything I’ve written since I started, including some basic biographical data in my early posts.
If you’d like to browse what I’ve written on a particular topic, you can use the Categories selection tool in the sidebar. Every now and then I revise the set of categories available; the most recent revision took place in March 2008.
