Yorke Valley photograph

Here’s a photograph I took with a borrowed camera during the Easter weekend. It came out rather dark, so please view the picture in full screen mode after sunset with the lights off. Any light reflecting off your computer screen will ruin it for you.

The artistic effect I was aiming for was a sort of visual harmony between the ruined building and the tree behind it - or more generally, between the artificial and the natural. I’m not entirely happy with the photograph, but I do like the way that there are various parallel lines between the branches of the tree and certain features of the building such as guttering. I think that’s a nice effect.

The building itself was once a very small school serving the local farming community, back in the days when horses were a common form of transport. Its personal significance to me is its proximity to my parents’ property, and no more than that.
