Adelaide Fringe Festival 2008
Today I booked tickets for various performances at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Womadelaide. Most of my choices involve folk/world music by artists that are new to me, but sound great. For each performance on my list, I’ve invited a relative or friend to come with me.
For 29 February, I’ve booked tickets for a musical performance by Cecile Corbel. From the Fringe Festival website: “Imagine a red haired Celt from Brittany, with a voice that hovers between Kate Bush [...], the purity of Sinead O’Connor and the mysticism of Enya, you’ll have a good idea what this remarkable young harpist, arranger of traditional songs and original songwriter sounds like.“
For 7 March, I’ve booked tickets for a musical performance by Ron Korb the Flute Traveller. From the Fringe Festival website: “Solo woodwinds from diverse countries such as Cambodia, Norway, Ireland, Canada, Japan and China.” Also for 7 March, I’ve booked tickets for a comedy performance by Jimeoin (who needs no introduction, at least not to Australians) at the Garden of Unearthly Delights.
I’ll be going to Womadelaide on 8 March. Artists that I’m particularly looking forward to hearing include Beirut, Sarah Blasko, and the Titi Robin Quintet. (Apparently the Amazing Drumming Monkeys are doing some performances for the kids at Womadelaide, although this doesn’t seem to be mentioned on the Womadelaide website.)
For 14 March, I’ve booked tickets for a musical performance called “Mediaeval Magic” by the Lumina Vocal Ensemble. The performance involves music from the mediaeval period.
I’m looking forward to all these performances, and I expect I’ll be adding a few CDs to my collection.
